Garni Hotel: Indoor Navigation
The Garni Hotel in Krakow, Poland, partnered with MODULOR-VR to undertake a digital transformation aimed at enhancing navigation and accessibility within its complex layout. This case study explores the application of Treedis and Matterport technologies to address the hotel's architectural challenges and improve the visitor experience.
Błażej Krajczewski, the CEO of MODULOR-VR, reveals the primary challenge: significantly improve navigation for guests within the Garni Hotel's complex layout. The project faced logistical hurdles, especially in capturing the hotel's layout without disrupting its operations. MODULOR-VR tackled this by scheduling the work during low occupancy periods, achieving the scanning of corridors and apartments efficiently in a single business day.
MODULOR-VR chose Treedis and Matterport technology to create an accurate and intuitive digital twin of the Garni Hotel. “This choice was influenced by Treedis’s superior capability to accurately reflect the complex maze of corridors, offering a more intuitive and engaging experience compared to traditional virtual tours,” noted Błażej Krajczewski. This approach aimed to provide a detailed preview of the hotel's interiors, amenities, and pathways, enhancing potential visitors' understanding of what to expect during their stay.
The solution involved creating a digital twin of the Garni Hotel, incorporating Treedis’ new navigation beta path feature a year after the initial implementation. This feature significantly improved accessibility by enabling guests to locate rooms from anywhere within the hotel, marking a major enhancement in the virtual tour's functionality.
The implementation of the navigation path feature was a testament to the potential of digital twin technology in improving indoor navigation. Future plans include installing an info kiosk at the Garni Hotel and incorporating emergency evacuation routes to further enhance guest orientation and safety. While the project with the Garni Hotel was hospitality-focused, Błażej Krajczewski explained that the success of the implementation inspired the use of the navigation feature in other industries. "The firm sees significant potential for this feature in large retail spaces and warehouses, where it can facilitate the creation of a product database with an easy-to-use-locator,” stated Błażej Krajczewski. The consequent successful integration of the navigation beta path feature in the KAUFLAND chain, another project by MODULOR-VR, demonstrates its wide applicability. By integrating Treedis’ advanced features, the project breathes new life into traditional virtual tours. This not only enriches the guest experience but also highlights the potential for technology to redefine industry benchmarks.
