Treedis Advances OneSight's Global Outreach
EssilorLuxottica is a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses. In EssilorLuxottica’s ambition to help eliminate uncorrected poor vision in a generation, the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation was established to drive vision care access. Since its establishment, it has created over 27,700 vision care access points, reaching 762 million people in underserved communities. Success of the Foundation is supported by the dedication of volunteers and donors; which is why attracting the right talent and resources is essential. This is where Treedis stepped in. By leveraging Treedis technology, EssilorLuxottica successfully captured and showcased the essence of five Foundation clinics. This innovative approach provided potential volunteers a realistic preview of their prospective roles and offered donors a transparent view of the Foundation’s on-the-ground impact.
The nature of the OneSight clinic’s locations, spread globally and often in remote and under-resourced areas, made it challenging for many to visit these sites easily. This situation highlighted the need for a highly realistic and immersive digital representation of the Foundation’s various locations. Such a feature would enable donors and potential volunteers to access and engage with these sites from any corner of the globe.
Using Matterport technology, EssilorLuxottica was able to capture their clinics. Treedis’ digital twin and immersive experiences solutions were then used to infuse the essence of these sites into the Matterport models. The project commenced in Cebu, Philippines, and quickly expanded to capture five clinic locations globally, including South Africa, Australia, the USA, and Europe.
Treedis technology was utilized to create an immersive experience for volunteers, donors and general viewers alike. Three of the locations offered a virtual tour, while the clinics in Australia and the Philippines featured enriched content like testimonials from beneficiaries, staff, and optometrists, alongside videos, images, and interactive elements like an eye test game. This was achieved through the use of the Treedis Experience Creator feature which enables users to build personalised, interactive, journeys over their digital twins. These experiences were then seamlessly integrated into a “Global Centre”; a CGI world map created by Treedis where users can click on each location to visit virtually. This solution allowed the Foundation to showcase its widespread efforts in a single, easy to reach, space.
By adopting Treedis’ advanced 3D technology, the Foundation could effectively narrate its story, highlighting the significant impact of its work across the globe. Yvonne Siow, the Head of the Foundation in Southeast Asia, noted that the ease of access fostered by Treedis technology has boosted engagement and trust. “The general feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” she said. As EssilorLuxottica continues its digital transformation, it is now using 3D models for volunteer training as well, streamlining logistics and saving time. The next step involves integrating these training experiences into their internal learning platform, broadening access for global employees and Eye Care Practitioners. Looking ahead, EssilorLuxottica plans to continue its digitization journey, incorporating more use cases and showcasing diverse aspects of its work. “The successful launch has allowed us to be more explorative in looking for new ways to increase the scale and impact of our work by leveraging on more innovative solutions… In a nutshell, we are satisfied as an organization. We are leaders in using new technology and hope this will give more confidence for NGOs to do the same,” commented Yvonne. As a company, Treedis is excited to have furthered the objectives of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation with our innovative technology. We are keenly looking forward to continued collaborations with EssilorLuxottica in 2024.
