Treedis Introduces AR Wayfinding at UNWE
The University of National and World Economy, the largest in Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe , boasts an impressive campus with 10 buildings. This vast expanse often leaves teachers and students struggling to find their way to the correct halls, leading to missed or late classes. To address this disorientation, the university commissioned Boyka Dobreva, founder of 3DVU shop, who turned to Treedis’ Augmented Reality (AR) solution for orientation. Utilizing a digital twin of the campus, this innovative technology now guides everyone effortlessly through the university, ensuring they reach their destinations on time.
Before implementing Treedis’ AR solution, the university had explored several other solutions including brochures with building diagrams and signposts, all to no avail. Boyka shared that “Great difficulties were encountered, especially by new students and visiting lecturers who come to the building for the first time…It is really difficult to navigate by boards that you may not understand”. The challenge was thus to find an easy way for students, lecturers, and guests alike to be able to search for locations and access the most direct routes to get to them so as not to miss lectures and meetings.
The first step taken to tackle the challenge was to scan the entirety of the university, which spans more than 54, 000 sqm. There are 10 buildings in the University, all with different floor levels. After taking a scan of the site, Boyka uploaded the finished digital twin into Treedis’ no-code platform, which was then used as the basis for the AR implementation.
Using Treedis’ platform, Boyka placed location points using tags at the relevant spots in the model. The AR solution was then activated for the University, which is accessed through the Treedis AR app. After thorough testing with the Treedis team, a completed AR solution for the entire University was created in only 1 month. “The process was in our hands and it happened extremely easily,” commented Boyka, “only with [Treedis] we had the assurance that we would be able to bring the project to the final”.
The AR wayfinding solution made an “incomparable difference,” said Boyka, “The students and teachers are extremely happy. [It was a] very easy, very fast and innovative solution”. Over 20 thousands students are now using the app to locate areas in the University. “We will no longer get lost and walk around the whole building, I will be on time for exams and sessions,” said one student.
3DVU shop are experts in developing 3D and 360 virtual tours.
I thank the Treedis team for their professionalism and I look forward to our next project. I recommend them for projects such as museums, universities, malls and large public facilities that can be managed and operated easily with the help of their applications.
